Crisperanto

For anybody who doesn't know who Quentin Crisp is, my advice is to watch the movie The Naked Civil Servant starring William Hurt, or use Google Search. The last one is definitely quicker. Crisp remained fiercely independent and unpredictable well into old age, as one should. Even Sting dedicated his song '' An Englishman In New York '' to Crisp. Well, we all know that if Sting dedicates a song to you, you got it made.. It includes the lines: ' It takes a man to suffer ignorance and smile ' - ' Be yourself no matter what they say,' which sums up Quentin Crisp's life to a tee. I for one always enjoyed his highly individual views on social manners and his advice on how to cultivate your own personal style. Here is some of the wit and wisdom of Quentin Crisp (1908-1999); 

' The young always have the same problem - how to rebel and conform at the same time. They have now solved this by defying their parents and copying one another.'

' The key is never, never work. Nothing is more aging that work. It's not only the strain of getting up in the morning for work, but it's the resentment that settles on your face.'

' I recommend limiting one's involvement in other's people's lives to a pleasantly scant minimum.'

' The search for a life-style involves a journey to the interior. This is not altogether a pleasant experience, because you not only have to take stock of what you consider your assets, but you also have to take a long look at what your friends call ''the trouble with you.'' Nevertheless, the journey is worth taking.'
