To Van Genk, the world is full of threats he wants to map with his work so he can outsmart them. Van Genk creates his own world from maps and pictures he cuts out of travel guides, brochures and magazines. He undertakes his own trips, preparing thoroughly. He studies roadmaps, train- and subway lines, airline routes and timetables. He sees a web of connections everywhere, used by the 'enemies' to influence him. In his complex universe of cities, stations, zeppelins, overhead lines and transmission towers, he himself is the great regulator behind the controls of vehicles. (Courtesy of The Outsider Art Museum)
